Your Taste In Music Sucks
You don’t have to take my word for it, let this AI tell you why.
A hilariously-scathing and condescending robot tells you the music you like most is bad and you should feel bad for liking it. Sounds kind of like a fever dream you might have. But no, it’s a fun little AI-powered application built by the creatives at The Pudding.
Essentially, a mean version of Spotify Wrapped, this web app uses AI to take a screenshot of your Spotify listening history and degrades you with it. Sounds fun, right? The neural net, apparently trained on “a corpus of over two million indicators of objectively good music”, berates you on your favorite artists and top songs and hurls (somewhat) personalized insults at you.
My favorite part though comes towards the end of the robot’s tirade wherein it will accost you with a hilariously-specific (and sometimes accurate) over-arching insult, meant to summarize your overall music taste.
Here’s what the stupid little robot had to say about my 2021 listening habits thus far:
If you’re a masochistic freak like a lot of us here on the internet, you can have your music taste judged by a neural network here. If you really like bad music, check mine out here. By the way, you can still get your music taste ridiculed even though it’s now 2021 — I had mine analyzed before and after the New Year with very similar results (it doesn’t exclusively analyze music you listened to in the current year).
